My calf is still really bothering me today. I am glad that I have a deep tissue massage scheduled for tonight so hopefully he can work the muscle out. The hike we went on today was called Temple Quarry. It wasn’t too bad but did have a few steep inclines. I was happy that I did really see improvement in my cardio. At one point as I was climbing a very steep hill, I looked down at my heart monitor and realized that I was actually over my max heart rate (185) at 188. I was still able to continue up the hill without stopping and just focused on breathing through it. I was pretty proud of that because previously I would have had to stopped for a bit to catch my breath. Once at the top of the plateau, the view was beautiful. As I was walking back to the van at the end of the hike, my calf really started aching and knotting up on me. I literally ended up limping back to the van.
I do have to say though that the hikes are not the same without Birch and Victoria here. I feel much more on my own and don’t feel the support and encouragement that I previously did. Knowing that just means that I have to kick in my self-motivation more and really focus my efforts.
When I got back to the resort, I knew that I still wanted to keep working out despite my injuries so I decided that I could do cardio class but that I would just not be able to run. Instead, I walked quickly and went hard on the incline (12.0). It was very sore but it was manageable. After class, I iced my calf during lunch to reduce the inflammation. I ended up skipping the Open Gym class as the few calories I would burn playing badminton or the like just wasn’t worth the risk of injuring myself more.
I was so excited that I had an 80 minute deep tissue massage tonight. The masseuse really worked my right calf for me. It really hurt but felt good at the same time. It felt much better when I was done. Ahhhhhh..... relief!
