Today we went on a hike that started at Middle Gila and finished at Upper Gila.  It was a good hike.  We were able to drop into a "slot" which is a narrow gap between 2 mountains.  It was very awesome!  After that we continued on to what they call "Newspaper Rock."  Here we met up with another group that was doing the same hike we were but reversed.  (Because we are the advanced group, we got the uphill hike all the way.)  Newspaper Rock has petroglyphs (ancient Indian etchings) on the wall.  We then continued on our way and came across more rocks to climb and sand to trudge through.  Overall, I did very well and I can tell I am in a lot better shape than I was a few weeks ago.  I finished the hike in the very front with the lead guide.

After lunch, I had Cardio Intervals. I was very happy that I was able to run once again.  My legs were very strong during the run but they started cramping up again once I slowed down.  I managed to push through it though and started working on building my cardio up once again.  After the Total Toning Class, one of the trainers (Robin) called me to the side and asked me if I could see the difference in my body.  I told her that I could see some changes.  She went on to tell me that she could see a lot of changes and that I was looking great.  That meant a lot to me and gave me a little boost.  :)  I went on to do some more Cardio on my own and had a guest tell me that I was like a machine and that she wished she could do what I did.  Again, her words meant a lot to me!  They gave me a spark of energy and I ended up full speed running for 9 minutes.  It felt great!!

After dinner, I went to a Life Coaching Class.  It gave me a lot of great information and some valuable tools. It amazes me that we form beliefs/opinions of ourselves as children that carry on into our adult lives.  What we did was state a negative belief/thought about ourselves such as "I am not strong enough."  We then had to choose if this statement was true or false.  There is no right or wrong answer -- only honest answers.  If we find this statement True, then we go on to look at "Actual Truths" about this statement (with a positive spin).  For example:  "I am getting stronger", "I will not quit", "I am strong enough to ask for help when I need it", etc.  The goal is to have a counter argument for yourself when you mind creates this negative/destructive thought.  So the thought "I am not strong enough" might pop into your mind, but you would quickly change this thought into a more positive and constructive thought that will not lead to negative behaviors.  Eventually, these negative thoughts will dissipate. (Another negative belief:  I am fat.  Actual Truth:  I am working on it; I am getting stronger, It's all math (calories in and out) and I am figuring it out, I'm not a quitter, etc.)  I think this tool can be very useful not only with weight loss but also with self esteem and confidence.

I ended the evening by watching the Biggest Loser Finale.  John won and lost 220 pounds in less than 7 months!  That is amazing!  Antone lost 202 pounds and Ramone lost 149 pounds!  WOW!!
