We went on one of the best hikes I have been on since I have been here.... Kim and I were supposed to go on the Wall Street hike but our guides asked us if we wanted to do something more challenging and fun.  Of course we said yes!  We ended up literally climbing up a mountain to an area they call the Coliseum.  It was amazing!  Almost the entire hike was climbing up the mountain.  So much fun and a great workout!

When we got back, I went to an Emotional Eating Lecture.  It was very informative.  She told us that many times people think that things will get better for them if they can just lose weight.  When in reality, the weight (or behavior) is actually caused by an imbalance in another area.  The equation is simple:

Fitness + Nutrition + Emotional Management = WEIGHT

In fact, two of these factors are related to food (nutrition and emotional eating) which means food is 2/3 of the problem of people being overweight.  In order to achieve a healthy weight for the long term, all of these three factors must be balanced.

She then asked everyone to recall when the first time when they knew or someone told them that they were overweight.  In response to that event, certain emotions were triggered.  Anytime those emotions are poked/triggered even now as we are adults, negative feelings (inadequate, negative, hurtful, worthless, failure) and often certain negative behaviors (including eating) occur in response (often times without us even realizing the connection).  We need to learn what our individual triggers are that cause us to be imbalanced and then learn how to cope with these in healthy ways.  Not sure if I explained this clearly, but it all makes a lot of sense and it is very interesting!

Our afternoon classes went well for me.  I was able to start running again on the treadmill with very little pain.  I feel that I have lost a lot of the cardio that I had gained in the first two weeks though because I couldn't run all last week.  :(  I will just have to build it up again.

Tonight I was able to get another massage.  It felt wonderful!  It is amazing how much a massage can rejuvenate the muscles and take away the aches and pains!
